Solskjaer makes 2 changes, Ighalo on the bench: Man Utd’s potential XI to face Chelsea – opinion | FootballFanCast.com

With the Premier League’s winter break now over, all attentions for Manchester United turn towards their clash against rivals Chelsea on Monday night.

The Red Devils trounced Frank Lampard’s side 4-0 in the opening game of the season at Old Trafford, but their paths since then, have diverged. The Blues are currently six points clear of United, but a win for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will take them to within just three points of the London outfit.

As such, there is certainly a major incentive for the Red Devils to treat this as a must-win game.

And so, with all that in mind, below is a look at how United might line up on Monday.

In front of David de Gea, Solskjaer may be tempted to stick with a back-four, but with Brandon Williams potentially coming in for Luke Shaw at left-back.

Whilst Scott McTominay appears to be closing in on a first-team return, this game may just be a bit too soon for the Scotland international. Nemanja Matic however will provide a major boost to his boss, as he will return from the one-match suspension that he suffered as a result of picking up a red card against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.

Further ahead of both Matic and Fred, Bruno Fernandes will no doubt start in the number ten role, with Daniel James and Juan Mata either side of him.

And then the big call Solskjaer will have to make is whether deadline day signing Odion Ighalo goes straight into the starting line-up, or takes his place on the bench. Anthony Martial hasn’t exactly been in the best of form, with just one Premier League goal in his last five games.

But with Ighalo still looking to settle into life at Old Trafford, Solskjaer may stick with Martial for Monday at least.

Meanwhile, this Man Utd ace has delivered an exciting verdict amid his return from injury.
